Clear signs that your boss is taking advantage of you

People do not like to feel they are being taken advantage of, especially at work. But it is the most difficult situation to handle as there is a very fine line between your boss delegating work to you and them taking it one step too far. If you are dealing with the latter, then we appreciate you are in an extremely difficult position. Unfortunately, unless you confront your boss and be honest about how you feel you are being treated, you will either continue to be unhappy or end up leaving the company.

Find out here if your boss is really taking advantage of you…..

More than just your own job
If there have been recent changes internally, for example, someone has left or there has been re-structure, you are managing the workload of 2 peoples’ jobs. There has been no change in salary or bonus suggestions and you are working longer and harder. You are beyond stressed and cannot cope with dealing with the workload.

Lack of positivity and appreciation
You work your hardest but there is never any praise around your achievements, in fact, most of the time, the opposite. You find that your boss nit-picks and is continuously critical, suggesting improvements to what you have done rather than ever saying well done or great work and a pay check is just not always enough praise! It does not take much to show appreciation through kind words when it is due but unfortunately some bosses just do not realise this.

Expectation of extended hours
Even though you are contracted to work a set number of hours, your boss frowns when you leave on time and makes you feel guilty if you are not arriving before your official start time and when you leave on the dot. Many industries do require extended hours, especially if there is a project or event approaching which is expected but if your boss is being unfair with the constant additional hours required, you are probably being taken advantage of!

You feel ill, stressed and tired
You are definitely being taken advantage of when it is negatively effecting your health. You are regularly ill, you feel continuously stressed, you cannot sleep soundly and feel tired consistently.

Your boss has an attitude and is rude
When work is delegated to you, it doesn’t need to be in a bullish, rude or bullying way. It does not take much for your boss to request, suggest, ask and speak in a calm way. If your boss behaves in this way, then you are sure to be taken advantage of.

Promises, promises
Some employees find their boss will promise them a bonus, a promotion, extra holiday, an incentive but it is never delivered. If this sounds like your boss, you are 100% being taken for granted. They are giving you a carrot to bite but never realising what they are offering. Not only does this effect morale and motivation for you but will probably mean that you will not be sticking around for too long. This is not an effective way to work for anyone or any business.

So, you can see there are several factor that clearly show you are taken advantage of. If you are in this position, pluck up the courage to speak and address the issue with your boss. It is better to hit the nail on the head early on rather than to let it fester, get the better of you and you end up quitting. Good luck!
