My employees are all quitting

People quit their bosses, not their company. It is common to hear managers complain when they lose staff to blame everything else but themselves. Here are some of the main things that send employees on. As a manager, it is important to consider yourself in the equation and be more self-aware, if you are not already and consider whether your actions are the ready for staff turnover. Here are some areas that may make employees walk out of the door:-

Over working – you expect your employees to do too much in their working day, give unrealistic deadlines, load more work on top of work etc

Lack of care for employees – you do not ask how your staff are and do not show any care about their feelings, whether positive or negative. You literally expect them to be there to perform their daily tasks and that is it.

Do not recognise good work – you never praise or feedback on tasks and activities and when someone puts in a great deal of effort and does really well, you either do not say well done or find it very difficult to utter these very important words.

Restrict people – you are not interested in hearing others suggestions or ideas. Employees who want to think of our of the box and stopped and you expect them to just get on with what they have been asked to do.

Micro-manage – you check their work at every step. You monitor their emails and even sometimes read their emails before they do and have a shared inbox. You never trust them to complete a project or task without asking multiple questions.

Fail to identify and build on skills – you do not every recognise an individual’s skills and abilities and certainly do not give them any scope to develop and grow. There are no options for promotion or career growth and staff have no drive to better themselves as they see no future with you around.

You are rude – you do not talk with respect and professionalism to your staff but instead act more like a bully and talk down to them.

Some of these points will be certainly hard to accept and deal with, if true but they could be one of the reasons why your staff are walking out of the door and not sticking with you. Have a long hard think about you and your management style and consider if YOU may be causing people to leave.
